Past post follow-up

A-Too Much of a good thing can be wonderful.
This was a quote by Warren Buffett - that he picked up from Mae West

B-It is not enough to win everyone else must also lose.
This was a quote made by Larry Ellison CEO of Oracle - he picked up the quote from Gingus Kahn - I spelled that incorrectly.

C-To do well one must be hardcore and forward thinking.
This is a quote from Bill Gates CEO of Microsoft

D-The truly great giants and geniuses of American business habitually worked 16 and 18 hour days often seven days a week and seldom took vacations. As a result, most of them lived to a ripe old age.
This is a quote from J Paul Getty - The famous oil tycoon from the 30's. It is from his book How To Get Rich

What did these have in common? - They are are billionaire quotes although a couple were quotes they borrowed. I hope you enjoyed reading them.

  4. It doesn't surprise me that Larry Ellison was the one that said that everyone else must lose for him to win.

That man has such a horrid reputation. I live here in Silicon Valley. It's no secret.

All the money in the world isn't enough to turn me into the asshole/douchebag that he is.

Oh, did I use bad language ? Sorry..... teehee !

  5. Sorry Tom, I'm not real inspired or impressed with any of the quotes. Maybe I'm a bit more philosophical. One of the quotes I ran across just today is one I will share here:

Today is tomorrow's yesterday. Don't waste it.

  8. These quotes display a manipulative non-sustainable way of living. They were all made by parasitic people. Is this what you want your children to be like?

    Peace out,

  9. Frankly, I liked only the first one. As pointed out by Tom above, the others seem too selfish and parasitic. Maybe, I don't want to be too successful, if it is at the cost of crushing others.

  10. I like all but the Getty quote, given that people who work all the time normally don't live long. At least by today's standards of old age. In his case, he was likely running from a lot of serious family issues that his absence and wealth helped create.

  11. I like the title of your blog, personal accountability. Something all of us should take.
As far as being successful, the men you quoted here certainly achieved a kind of success that few do.

Think of this: True success is Happiness and Happiness takes many forms.

    Thank-You

  12. They were all focused on their dream and went after what they wanted without looking at who they roll over.
Mot of us tend to look at the person next to us and try to bring him along and instead we get anchored short of our goals.

The real question is who is happier?

  13. I answered this in the last post but love quotes in general. My sons were looking at a hero vs. villian cartoon with a brother and sister heroic duo. The sister gave encouraging words to her brother. He replied "your words hit harder than your hit." This phrase made me think how powerful encouraging words and quotes can be especially when they come just when you need them.

  18. I don't know if any of these quotes are exactly "inspiring." Nothing to live by, definitely.
Perhaps since they all center around prosperity and self gain rather than personal philosophy?

On another note, I do actually like your blog =]
You seem to take a lot of influence from others in positions of power.
