(Picture a third world country starved person with a big smile and a wad of cash in their hand to buy a business tool)
How do you feel about the concept of "micro-loans" as a form of charity? Micro-loans are loaning money to third world country businesses with the idea of helping them to get a start in business. They are often for things like a sewing machine or something small. How do you feel about this as a form of charity?

unless you teach and follow up, religiously and consistently and constantly and help manage and motivate and motivate and motivate, micro-loans do NOT work in 3rd world countries. i see this daily here, since the practice of getting loans is one that is totally abused. unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!! I look forward to reading your posts. enJOY your day!!
ReplyDeleteExcited to find your blog! I am confused by Shadow's comments. After living in the developing world and seeing lives changed by microcredit. Please visit http://www.hopeinternational.org and read "The Poor Will be Glad." Thank you for making us think!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a blog. It's nice you are helping so many people. :) I will definitely be stopping by again.
ReplyDeletePS. Thanks for the comment on my blog!
I'm a humanist and I believe God created all people equal..I think what would help them more is money for school...Teach on Man an education you affect his whole family...Now there is an idea that one can do more than their ever thought possible..Hope saves lives!
ReplyDeleteABsolutely very supportive of micro loans!
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming past Ada & Darcy!
What if someone said to you - I'll give you a million dollars for a charity of your choice if you can generate that sum in blog traffic, but there's one condition, you cannot tell the bloggers of this deal - ?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shadow - Microloans need to be followed up. This is a bit like the "teach a man to fish" idea. Giving someone a sewing machine or farm equiptment isnt enough and most likely only serves as something the donor can feel good about, but never think about again.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading the input from everyone in this post. I found the input on accountability VERY interesting.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was on the motives behind the "loaning". Is the loan really charity? Thank you for bringing that point up.
